I live in Summerville, Prince Edward Island with my husband Robert and two sons Brandon (6 years) and Benjamin (4 years). Brandon was diagnosed with Autism in January 2006 and his little brother Benjamin was also diagnosed in December 2006. Raising two children with autism on PEI definately has its struggles. I am confident that families will keep working together so PEI’s services will improve for the better. Since May 2000, we have been enrolled in the Preschool IBI Service. Due to this, our personal privacy has been stripped from our family on many levels. Our story is personal, public and affected by Autism everyday.
I currently finishing my Business Degree at the University of Prince Edward Island and have had the privilege of working with companies such as Golf PEI, Walt Disney World (Orlando, Florida), Rodd Hotels and Resorts, the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island, Golf Links PEI, Rainbow Valley, CBC, and D. P. Murphy Inc.
I have been involved with the coordination of events such as the 2006-2008 Tourism Employment Showcase, 2006-2007 Summerside Job Fair, and the 2006 Legends of Golf – Making the Connection.
I have held various volunteer positions such as the Fundraising Chairperson for the Autism Society of PEI, Event Coordinator for the PEI Corvette Club, 2006-2008 Brad Richards Celebrity Golf Classic, 2002 Halifax National Mixed Curling Championship, and winning Gold Cup and Saucer Ambassador.
I have obtained National Certification through the EMERIT tourism training as a Special Event Coordinator.
I enjoy meeting new people, helping others, spending time with my family, coordinating events and curling in Island bonspiels.

Just surfed in and saw those two handsome little guys of yours. April, your website is a credit to you. Thank you for the fine work you put into educating Islanders about Autism, a disorder that is certainly becoming more common. You are a very unselfish person to dedicate so much time and effort into making others aware of this disorder. By sharing your first-hand knowledge, you will surely help many families develop the necessary coping skills and the courage to bring the needs of autistic children more to the forefront, especially where funding provision is concerned. Good luck and keep up the good work.
