Advocate

Since 2005, I have been thrown into the exciting and demanding world of Autism. It has taking my life down many different roads during this journey and have faced many roadblocks along the way. But I “Keep Moving Forward” to help my children and family receive the appropriate services that we need.

Upon researching the internet, I came across the Ontario Association of Education Advocates website and found out that they offer an 11 week online training programs for individuals to become better advocates for their children and for other families. So I enrolled in this course to become a better advocate for my children. The training program consists of the following:

Unit Breakdown

  • Unit 1: The Psychology of Advocacy
  • Unit 2: Information Gathering and Files for Advocacy Action
  • Unit 3: Tests, Assessments and Reports
  • Unit 4: The School Bureaucracy
  • Unit 5: The IPRC and IEP
  • Unit 6: The Consultant’s Guide to Special Education Law
  • Unit 7: Advocacy Skill Building

I have a strong desire to not only help my own family, but other families who are experiencing challenges regarding the needs of their special needs child(ren).  If you are interested in learning how you can be a better advocate for your child, check out the above website or check out the American Based www.wrightslaw.com for excellent resources on this subject.
